Gemma is a Trusts and Estates Practitioner in our Tax, Trusts, Wills and Probate team.
Gemma joined the firm in 2011 initially as a Legal Secretary within the private client team, before taking on a fee earning role in 2016. She completed her studies for the Society for Trusts & Estates Practitioners (STEP) Diploma in Trusts and Estates, and with her work experience, was then able to qualify as a Trusts and Estates Practitioner (STEP) in 2021.
What can Gemma do for you?
Gemma can assist personal representatives with obtaining grants of representation, and then dealing with the subsequent administration of the estate. This would include collating information in relation to the estate, preparing the inheritance tax return if needed, applying for and obtaining the grant, collecting in the assets to settle liabilities and arrange distribution of the estate, and any reporting to and liaising with HMRC.
She also deals with on-going trust administration. This includes the day to day administration on behalf of the trustees, and the preparation of annual accounts and tax returns. Gemma will also consider the trust’s position under the ever growing compliance obligations including Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Common Reporting Standards (CRS) and the Fifth Money Laundering Directive; advising trustees accordingly, and taking the appropriate action.
What else should you know?
Gemma has lived in Suffolk all of her life, apart from whilst studying Forensic Science at the University of Lincoln. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with a good book or being creative with crochet.
