A therapy garden serves as a sanctuary for nurturing mental wellbeing. Individuals find respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, immersing themselves in a serene environment that calms the mind and uplifts the spirit. In essence, a therapy garden is not merely a place of beauty but a haven for holistic healing, nurturing mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
We as a firm have proudly supported the new GreenMinds Therapy Garden at Wedgwood House mental health facility, located behind West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds. On Tuesday 18th June, the gardens held their official opening to welcome the individuals and organisations whose support has enabled the garden to be built.
We were delighted to hear that the garden, which was only completed at the end of 2023, is already proving its value, not only for patients at Wedgwood House, but for those experiencing mental ill health in the West Suffolk community who are encouraged to join horticultural workshops, activities, and a weekly volunteer gardening group.
The garden, at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s Wedgwood House on the West Suffolk Hospital site, represents the culmination of a two-year fundraising project led by Katherine Falk and Mossy Kennedy, and the transformation of green wasteland into a biodiverse, sensory garden for use by patients, staff, carers and vulnerable members of the wider community.
Stuart Hughes, Partner, attended the event and commented ‘It was wonderful to see all the team’s hard work come together and hear about the great impact the gardens are already having. Greene & Greene are delighted to be involved which such an important project that is at the heart of our community.’
