The 2025 edition of Chambers & Partners UK was released on Thursday 18 October, ranking eight of our departments and 17 individual lawyers. Feedback from clients interviewed by Chambers include ‘Greene & Greene provide clear advice which is practical and commercially sensible.’ and ‘Greene & Greene have more than exceeded expectations in their ability to handle high-value, complex cases against powerful opponents. I was impressed by how nimble they were as a team.’
Corporate and Commercial
Working with agents, accountants and funds, our Corporate and Commercial team has experience of selling to every type of buyer, including overseas businesses, trade buyers, management teams, venture capital funds and private investors. Offering a City service at sensible rates, with significant experience and a “can do” attitude, our lawyers have bought and sold every type of business including start-ups, growing businesses, technology, mature companies and distressed and insolvent businesses, in a variety of sectors. The team is recommended as amongst the best in the region.
Partners, Mark Daly, who ‘always gives sound advice’ and Mark Whittaker, who is described as ‘a strong lawyer’ have both ranked in band 3. Managing Partner, Simon Ratcliffe, holds onto his band 2 ranking and received feedback including ‘Simon has a very professional approach to his clients. He has a very high level of service and expertise across a range of disciplines.’ Andrew Cooper, Partner, has moved up to band 2 with client’s commenting ‘He’s diligent, a great source of advice and is clearly very knowledgeable. I trust his advice implicitly.’
Commercial Litigation
Ranked as band 2, Chambers note the team are widely recognised for expertise in an array of commercial disputes. The team frequently represents SMEs and individual clients, including businesspeople and company directors. The lawyers also act on professional negligence claims and cases concerning alleged fraud and breaches of fiduciary duties.
Rob Adam, heads the Dispute Resolution team. He is individually ranked band 2 and is noted for being ‘a very experienced commercial litigator in the area. He is very fair and very tough as an opponent.’
Hugely experienced Michael Batty, Senior Partner, is also ranked band 2 with clients commenting ‘Michael has a good understanding of our business and provided excellent support and advice with a challenging matter.’
Senior Associate, Rachel Turner-George joins this year’s rankings as an Associate to watch, with clients commenting she is ‘very clear and very straightforward.’
Employment
Our Employment team is once again ranked band 2. The team advise individuals and businesses across a wide spectrum of employment matters. The team also offers employment law and HR training to its business clients. The firm is engaged by employees and senior executives for matters including contract negotiations, as well as employment litigation covering areas such as unfair dismissal and whistleblowing. The firm’s Commercial Property team is noted for its experience in covering a broad range of real estate services, with one client commenting the team’s ‘ability to find solutions to overcome very complex situations was quite remarkable.’ Partner and head of department, Tim Mendes da Costa is ranked for the first time with feedback including ‘Tim is very efficient and determined to progress deals without delay.’
Property Litigation
The team provide a wide range of services including advice on planning disputes, restrictive covenants, adverse possession and forfeiture. They have an excellent reputation in the marketplace with firm feedback including ‘What impresses me about their team is their attention to detail – the evidential picture is proactively explored at an early stage.’ Michael Batty, Senior Partner, is noted for being ‘genuinely so meticulous: the best lawyer I have worked with.’ Rob Adam, Partner, is again ranked and praised for his manner, ‘I cannot fault Rob Adam!’
Construction
Ranked band 2, the practice led by Sarah Western has gained a strong client base with one commenting ‘The lawyers at Greene & Greene are professional and commercial in their approach. They always strive to get the best result for clients.’
Sarah Western is again ranked with clients commenting on her excellent client service. ‘Sarah Western is one of the most driven, diligent and passionate litigators in East Anglia. Family and Matrimonial
Our family team are the only firm to be ranked as band 1 for Ipswich and the surrounding area. Chambers note that our specialists are recognised, qualified experts who have in-depth practical expertise in all aspects of family and / or relationship disputes. Feedback includes ‘It’s a dream team with lawyers who are very adept in their own right but also very collaborative.’
